The final match of Davis Cup 2011 ended in another gruelling defeat for Argentina, as their bid to win first Davis Cup title ended on Sunday, with 1-3 loss to Spain, which has established as dominating nation in the competition for over a decade.
Rafael Nadal was once again the hero of the nation, winning two matches, and giving Spanish team the unassailable 3-1 lead on Sunday, with a tough 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 7-6 (0) win over Juan Martin del Potro. The match lasted 4 hours and 8 minutes, giving the world number two his 20th win in Davis Cup.
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal clinched their 2011 ATP World Tour Awards, presented by Moët & Chandon. The outstanding ATP Players received their trophies, created by Tipperary Crystal, at the special on-court ceremonies, held between the matches of ATP World Tour Finals at О2 Arena in London.
Novak Djokovic was honoured as the highest-ranked player in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings for the first time, following his almost flawless season, during which he won three Grand Slam titles and 5 Masters Titles.
Roger Federer received two trophies, winning Fans’ Favourite Award taking it for a ninth consecutive year, and the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award being honoured for a seventh time in eight years.
Rafael Nadal was honoured to receive the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award. His charity, Rafa Nadal Foundation, is helping socially disadvantaged youngsters.
