Petra Kvitova Takes Linz title

After winning Wimbledon, it was a rollercoaster part of season for Petra Kvitova, with several very disappointing losses at US Open and in Toronto. But when WTA action got to the fast indoor courts, it seemed that the talented Czech finally returned to her winning form, clinching Generali Ladies Linz Cup. Her fifth WTA title of the year.

Seeded No.1, Kvitova won her first three rounds easily, including a 62 62 quarterfinal victory over Daniela Hantuchova. However, she was one step from the exit, being 64 31 down against Jelena Jankovic, before turning the game in her favor 46 64 63.

The fourth-ranked Kvitova impressed again in the final match against Dominika Cibulkova, grabbing eight of nine games from 4-4, to win the match 6-4 6-1 and clinch the title and so-needed confidence, ahead of TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul.

“I was trying to fight for every point,” Kvitova admitted. “The semifinal match against Jelena was very tough, we showed some nice tennis. Today we had a very close fight with Dominika and I knew I had to play well to win.

Linz is sixth WTA career title for Petra Kvitova, her first being Hobart 2009 and four during her rise to the top of the game this year (Brisbane, Paris, Madrid and Wimbledon).

Elena Vesnina and Marina Erakovic Linz doubles champions

In the doubles tournament, the title went to No.4 seeds Marina Erakovic and Elena Vesnina, who played together for the first time. In final Vesnina and Erakovic defeated Julia Goerges and Anna-Lena Groenefeld, 75 61. It was fifth double title for Erakovic and sixth for Vesnina.
